We remove spray foam insulation from homes throughout Widnes and the WA8 postcode district. The foam is cut and scraped away by hand, all waste is removed, and the exposed rafters and roof covering are inspected and photographed. Once the roof is clear, we can re-insulate the loft at ceiling level so the house stays warm.
Is Widnes covered even though it is in Halton?
Yes. Widnes falls under Halton Borough Council rather than one of the Merseyside boroughs, but it is a short trip from Liverpool and St Helens, and we treat it as part of our normal working area. You do not pay extra simply because of the council boundary.
Thinking about the whole loft, not just the foam
Most of the Widnes owners we speak to want two things: the foam out, so a lender or surveyor is satisfied, and a warm house afterwards. It is worth planning both together from the start. Here is how the two stages fit.
Stage one: removal
We protect the stairs and landing, then take the foam off the roof slopes using hand tools. Ceilings below are not stood on, and where foam is bonded to felt or tiles we cut it back rather than tearing it. Bags of foam leave the property for disposal. If there is old, flattened insulation on the joists, it can be taken out at the same time through our loft insulation removal service.
Stage two: inspection
The bare structure is checked. We moisture-test rafters and battens, look for rot or beetle damage, and record the state of the felt or membrane. Our report includes photos of each slope, which is useful both for any repairs and for anyone assessing the property.
Stage three: re-insulation
Mineral wool is laid between and across the ceiling joists, to around 270 mm, in line with Energy Saving Trust guidance. We keep the eaves clear so air can move through the roof space, and if you need storage, we can talk about raised boarding so the insulation is not squashed. Full details are on our re-insulating after removal page.
Housing in Widnes and why it matters
Widnes grew as a chemical-industry town, and older areas near the river have Victorian and Edwardian terraces. Through the twentieth century the town spread with council estates and private semis, and more recent developments have added modern homes with trussed roofs. Terraces raise questions about party walls and shared roof lines; post-war semis often have foam packed into the eaves; newer homes have membranes that are easy to tear. We adjust our method to whichever you have.
Some lenders are firm about spray foam and others take a lighter view. Policies differ and change. Ask your broker or lender what they need before booking any work, and keep them in the loop.
If a lender is involved, our spray foam and mortgages page is a good place to start. To read about the service in full, see spray foam removal in Liverpool and the surrounding area. We also cover St Helens and Prescot nearby.

Frequently asked questions
Do you cover Runcorn as well as Widnes?
Our main area is Liverpool and Merseyside plus Widnes. If your home is in Runcorn, call and ask; we will tell you honestly whether we can help or not, depending on our schedule at the time.
Can you re-insulate the loft in Widnes on the same job as removal?
Often, yes, as long as the timbers are dry and no roof repairs are needed first. If we find damp or damaged felt, it is better to sort that before new insulation goes in. We explain any reason for a pause in the report so you can plan the next step.
Will my Widnes loft still be usable for storage after re-insulation?
It can be. Laying boards directly on deep insulation squashes it and reduces its performance, so raised boarding on legs is the usual approach. We can talk through what storage you need and how to keep the insulation effective.
What WA8 areas do you visit?
We cover the whole WA8 district, including areas such as Farnworth, Ditton, Hough Green and Appleton. Give us the address when you call and we will arrange to see the loft at a time that works for you.
